Simons-FAPESP Research Professor Position in Biological Physics
The ICTP South American Institute for Fundamental Research announces the opening of a Simons-FAPESP research professor position in the interdisciplinary area of physics with connections to biology. The search committee members include Peter Goddard (IAS Princeton, chair), William Bialek (Princeton Univ.), Marcus Aguiar (Univ. Campinas) and Simon Levin (Princeton Univ.).
ICTP-SAIFR is a South American center for theoretical physics created in 2011 as a collaboration of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) with the São Paulo State University (UNESP) and the São Paulo Research Funding Agency (FAPESP). It is located at the Instituto de Fisica Teorica (IFT-UNESP) campus in downtown São Paulo and has a large number of postdocs and visitors. In addition to performing research and organizing activities, the new professor will have the opportunity to participate in SAIFR’s partnership with the CUNY-Princeton Center for the Physics of Biological Function and will assist in the teaching and supervising of Masters and PhD students of IFT-UNESP.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and generous donations from the Simons Foundation and the Serrapilheira Institute allow the salary to be competitive with those in the USA. Depending on the qualifications of the candidate, the position will be either a permanent professorship or a 4-year professorship with the possibility of tenure after 3 years. The professor will also have available funds for graduate students, postdocs, visitors, research and travel, and will have an automatic visiting position at the ICTP in Trieste.
Although applications will be accepted until the position is filled, candidates are strongly encouraged to apply before November 15, 2018 by filling out this online application form.
